Leaving Stocky · Guide
Bin locations that stay accurate
How do I set up bins without creating a second thing to maintain?
Name bins after the place, not the product
A bin is a physical spot. Name it for where it is — A-1, C-14, OVERFLOW-2 — so the label stays correct when the product in it changes. Bins named after products need relabelling every season, and a stockroom of stale labels is worse than no labels.
Print labels once, scan them thereafter
Printable QR labels let someone scan a bin to see what should be in it. That is the check that keeps a map accurate over time, and it is far quicker than an audit.
The map decays unless something notices
Stock gets moved. The signal that a map has drifted is staff repeatedly reporting a product “not found” in its bin — which is tracked, and raised as an exception once it is a pattern rather than a bad day.
That exception is kept separate from the one meaning Shopify shows stock nobody can find anywhere. They look similar and need different fixes: one is a wrong map, the other is a wrong inventory record.
Common questions
- Do I have to map every product before starting?
- No. Unmapped products still appear in refill runs, sorted to the end, and there is a report of what is missing. Map the fast movers first and let the rest accumulate.
