What Fill Shelves actually did

Fill Shelves answered one question every morning: which products have sold enough that the shelf now needs topping up from the stockroom? It compared what you wanted on display against what had sold, and produced a list someone could walk.

That is a smaller job than “inventory management”, and it is the job that disappears on 31 August 2026. Reorder points, purchase orders and supplier management are separate problems with plenty of tools. The daily walk is the part with a gap in it.

What has to be rebuilt, and what does not

Shopify still tracks inventory per Location, and it does that well. What Shopify does not have is a concept of “on the shelf” versus “in the stockroom” inside one Location — there is no API for it, and any app suggesting otherwise is describing its own bookkeeping.

So the piece that needs rebuilding is the shelf model: what each facing should hold, what is believed to be on it now, and what that means for the stockroom trip. Everything downstream — the pull list, the bin order, the scan — follows from it.

Where the numbers come from, plainly

A shelf quantity inside one Location is an estimate. It is derived from your recorded sales, refills and counts — not read from Shopify, because Shopify does not hold it.

That matters on a Saturday. An estimate that has drifted should say so rather than presenting itself as fact, which is why every shelf figure here carries a state: verified by a recent count, estimated, stale, or inconsistent with recorded activity. A count resets it to verified.

Common questions

Will my Stocky data transfer?

The columns that map cleanly do: SKU, barcode, bin, minimum, maximum and reorder point. Import shows a line-by-line preview, retains columns it cannot place rather than dropping them, and can be rolled back. Stocky features with no equivalent here — purchase order history, supplier records — will not transfer, and it is better to know that before you export.

What happens to my data after 31 August 2026?

Export from Stocky before then. Once it is unavailable, it is unavailable, and no third party can recover it for you.
