Receiving and put-away

Deliveries get checked against what was expected, with shortages, overages and damage recorded separately. Damage kept apart from shortage matters: you need one number for the supplier claim and a different one for what can go on a shelf.

What is accepted becomes put-away work, suggesting the bin each product belongs in.

Counts that cannot surprise you

Count by bin, shelf, zone or whole location, blind if you prefer — blind mode omits the expected quantity entirely rather than merely hiding it, because a number present in the response is a number that leaks.

A count produces a variance report. Nothing reaches Shopify until that report is reviewed and approved, and a large variance requires a manager.

Moves between locations

Between two real Shopify Locations, a genuine Shopify transfer is created. Between two areas inside one Location — a backroom and a floor — the move is recorded here only, and Shopify is not told, because as far as Shopify is concerned nothing moved.

That distinction is deliberate. Fabricating a transfer would put records in your Shopify admin describing something that did not happen.

Common questions

Does this replace purchase orders?

No. Receiving records what arrived and gets it onto shelves. Supplier management and purchasing are a different job, and there are tools that specialise in it.
